A Hands-On S.T.E.M. Activity
Working as part of an engineering team, students design, model and test an energy absorbing bumper for a vehicle which will minimize the impact created by a head-on collision into a test wall.
Vehicles are accelerated across the table by pulling weights hanging from the edge. students are able to visualize the crash while measuring the impact and recoil of the crash on the bumper design. usign the pre-installed impact sensor and included software. A wide variety of materials and designs can be tested as students attempt to reduce the impact forces found in a vehicle collision.
