Make a set of mechanical scales to weigh or count parts up to 50 grams using leverage. After adding an object to be weighed, the arm swings up next to the readout.
Students will gain hands on experience with the assembly of simple machines, creating the mechanisms used to make a functional scale. Topics of interest would include linkages, rotary and linear motion, load, calibration, average calculation and units of measure.
As an additional challenge, students can create and calibrate their own scaling chart using cardstock cut to ft the tubing inserts. Approximately 25cm long. Grades 5 and up.
Kit includes:
Requires snips or Kre8® Cutter (283653) as well as assembly, measuring and cutting.
NOTE: Kre8® kits can be assembled in regular classrooms. Kits may require hand tools, advanced assembly and adult supervision.
