This module is designed to help students discover and apply engineering principals used to design the structures that make up our people made world. Students will explore and experiment with loads, forces, materials and material systems generic to all large structures. Your students will then apply this knowledge to the design and fabrication of a model beam bridge.
Learning Activities Include:
- Determining the Weight to Strength Ratio of Beams and Column Shapes
- Design, Build and Test a Beam Bridge Within Criteria
Module contents include: Grid Paper, DesignGrid™ Cardstock, Carpenters Glue, Masking Tape, Balsa Strips, Round Head Pins, Wax Paper, Craft Knives, Triple Beam Balance, and Long Island Structure Tester.
Level: ELM, MS, HS
