In the 21st century, new developments in biotechnology will provide better ways to diagnose and prevent diseases. This module introduces some of the concepts of biotechnology and their applications to modern medicine.
Activities and laboratory experiments cover topics which include the study of bacterial infections, the genetic basis of disease, as well as initial screening tests for viral infections, such as HIV. Other topics included in the module focus on gene therapy and the Human Genome Project.
